Visiting Montserrat Barcelona Spain - A Traveller's Overview

Montserrat Barcelona Spain is an unusual mountain range which is home to Santa Maria de Montserrat, a Benedictine Abbey. It is a truly lovely place, a must-visit place on your itinerary.

It is not just the spectaculary scenery from high above the city that will mesmerize you, but also the simple beauty of the Abbey itself. It is not too far away from the city of Barcelona - just approximately an hour's journey away. At the destination, you need to board a cable car or what is known as the rack railway from the bottom of the mountain to proceed upward to arrive at the retreat itself. Remeber to visit the Museum of Montserrat and the audiovisual room too.

The station from where you take the train to the point where the cable car begins is the Espanya rail station. There are different trains which go to the cable car's starting point and the point where the rack railway journey begins. The trains from the Espanya station are of regular duration of every one hour, from around just after 8.30a.m. to the last one departing at just after 4.30p.m. You need to check, though, which are daily trains and which are not. You will find very useful details here.
