Staying at Hotel Gautam Porvorim Goa - a personal review

Hotel Gautam, Porvorim, Goa is the place to stay if you are seeking homely, vegetarian food with, naturally, comfortable rooms. Not only is it an ideal place for families with kids, but it is also a 100% safe place for ladies travelling solo or in groups. The tariff plans they offer, with or without meals as per your choice, are value for money, so don't hesitate to book a stay here. As mentioned in my initial post on the hotel location, it is beneficial to book a minimum 3-night stay so that you get free pick-up and drop-off service from the airport/railway station and complimentary sightseeing. 

The 3-night staycation

We booked a 3-night package with a meal plan. The hotel had arranged for a pick-up from MOPA airport and it took about 25--30 minutes to the hotel through scenic landscapes before entering the city spaces. When you first see the castle-like exterior, you will hark back to the fairytales of your childhood!

Yes, the paint is faded and not as pristine as it is shown in the photos on the official website, but nevertheless, overall the property is maintained. The architectural features and the general layout of the hotel are very good, with the rooms for guests spread out around the central area that has the swimming pool and the restaurant. There are also two small gardens with carved tables and chairs. 



The swimming pool is divided into two sections, with one side shallow for kids to splash around in. The pool is well-maintained and super clean.

We had booked a superior room after looking at the photos on the website, as the standard room looked a bit cramped - and when we did see that room later during our stay, our perception was accurate. It is really small and would be fine for a day's stay, but if staying longer anywhere, I always prefer a space that does not feel too claustrophobic. Read the detailed review of the rooms.

The restaurant is really charming. The timings of breakfast, lunch, and dinner are fixed and you are required to dine in the restaurant itself. Room service is only provided for evening tea if you want this, or, say, a glass of nimbu-paani (have this, it's good!)

Thai Curry, Tea and Tiramisu - Heady dining at CafeTrofima restaurant Mumbai

What's mentioned in the title of this post are three of the items on the menu which you should not miss out on, when dining at Café Trofima restaurant in Mumbai city. When it opened a year ago, the restaurant had a menu which was limited for vegetarians and was predominantly non-vegetarian food. On our second visit today, we were happy to see a much improved menu, both in terms of the menu layout itself (previously it was just a large sheet of thick paper, much like a large pamphlet, frayed at the edges. Now it is a cheery orange and blue one on the inside, albeit a dull brown outside though. There are more options for vegetarians as well. It goes without saying that, a year on, the prices have shot up too!!
